Hi group,

Has a time and date for when we're going to work on this?

Group project proposal

· Project overview:

The project is creating pathway of choices. (MAC vs. PC user) It is giving people the option to walk down either pathways and symbolically voice your opinion. (using one idea that the majority of people agree with, to create the flow of people on one side of the tape, creating a barrier or border with cardboard boxes)

The central idea is to see how people interact and react in a public space during unexpectedly events. We hope the majority of people in library walk are willing to take stand for this activity, so we can interview some of them afterward.

· Location considerations:

Library walk because there's usually a bunch of people walking through there that we could get to interact with us and we are video taping it.

· Note any materials, props, or costumes that you will use:

Posters, camcorder, and cardboard to separate two sides

· Describe the responsibilities of each of the group members:

2 of us will hold up a poster at each side. 2 of us will do the recording. 2 of us will interview people at the end of library.

· How you plans to document the project:

We want to record this project, and do few interviews with some people.

· Any key aspects or concerns that still need to be worked out or developed:

Our concern is the trouble we might get in for doing it on library walk.

Hey guys, so I'm getting a ride from Prof. Goldfarb since it seemed like there wasn't room for me last Wednesday, lol.

Anyway, we have to have this down by tonight..
Project overview: describes what you plan to create/enact; and discusses the central ideas or motivation for project, and how you hope your audience or public will interact with it.
· Location considerations: describe the site(s) that you are considering and why you are choosing it.
· Note any materials, props, or costumes that you will use.
· Describe the responsibilities of each of the group members.
· How you plans to document the project
· Any key aspects or concerns that still need to be worked out or developed.

So for location, it'd be library walk because there's usually a bunch of people walking through there that we could get to interact with us and we are video taping it.
for props, we're using posters and anything else?
We still need to discuss the responsibilities for each one of us.

It looks like the idea for the project is pretty much set. We just need to come to a consensus on an issue. I think a controversial topic would make it more interesting, but I don't know. What do you guys think?

Monday, April 18, 2011

I feel like if we are going to do political ideas, I think some people might not want to give any opinion or might not even sure which side to stand. We should do it on some common topics, so people won’t need to spend too long picking a side.

More ideas:

- Dog lover vs. cat lover

- MAC vs. PC user

- T mobile vs. AT&T???

- Vegetation vs. carnivore

- Fast vs. slow (allow people to pick a side, and ask what it means to them)

Wednesday

you guys still want to meet up somewhere and carpool together on Wednesday??

4/13 class discussion

Library walk
-creating pathway of choices.
-giving people the option to walk down either pathways and symbolically voice your opinion.
(using one idea that the majority of people agree with, to create the flow of people on one side of the tape, creating a barrier or border with cardboard boxes)
-smoking and non smoking pathways or sections, and creating incentive to pick one side or the other.
-questioning military stances
-gay marriage

post some more ideas for controversial topics!
Saw this on my friends facebook and its pretty cool. Maybe we use this idea.

I think what we need to do is eliminate all the simple and irrational ideas. I don't think the map idea will work, in most cases when people are lost they tend to ask people for help. Also all the grand theft auto idea should probably be flushed down the drain; too much confrontation and liability.
I agree with Julia I think the singing idea might work, the actual person we confront on liter could be in on it and we would just see the reaction of bystanders. The idea is not fresh/new but it would be our own take on the napkin video Goldfarb showed us in class. Unfortunately I can't sing but I am currently taking gospel choir. Maybe I can ask my fellow choir students to help out.

Places and Times when we can do this:
Wednesday when everyone is waiting for that chicken plate or I guess any afternoon in price center.

The more and more I think about it, I think the littering idea works. This class is about one's public space and I guess it would be okay for there to be confrontation when one feels that their public space is being violated.
I personally love the idea that we all perform a song when we see a person litter. It will be entertaining and funny, as long as we don't make it too confrontational. The only issue is if we can and are willing to sing in public.
Here are some links to some of the videos we brought up. Maybe by watching these we can come up with our own original idea. One that we don't have to sing in preferably.

How about have someone holding a school map in front of the library…looking clueless. And see how many people would actually step in and show him direction.

I agree with Vivian that the carjacking and bike stealing will be difficult to do. Although, I did like the grand theft auto idea.

I think we could do something out of the ordinary on library walk or price center, like performing a song or something similar.

I remember an idea being mentioned in which we try to spot someone who litters and following them while performing a song about it. That seems like it'd be easy in regards to gathering people's reactions.

The blue book idea seems okay, too. But how would we go about getting people's responses/reactions?

test it out

I like most of the ideas we talked about in class.

Since Prof Goldfarb said we should have more interactions with people. I don’t think we should use the ideas such as car jacking, bicycle stealing, etc… because it’s just going to make it harder for us to interact or interview people.

I think the blue book idea and testing people’s willingness to help are some possible ideas.

Maybe we can find a day to test out one of the ideas and see what we can add and improve

Ideas

Group, these are some of the ideas that we threw around in class.
- Performance
"what would you do?"
situations testing people to act and testing their moral fiber
- car jacking (GTA)
- conflicts between people
-bicycle stealing
-theft(leaving purse behind) and potentially returning
-peer pressure
-leaving bicycling unlocked
-box with items for sale, with no one attending.
-testing peoples limitations for how much they will help or willingness to intervene in a situation.

Prof Goldfarb said that our ideas should look to interact with people, potentially before they actually commit a crime. this would make it much easier for us to speak with them and get to know what they may have been thinking. Any thoughts?
